                    Interviews can be stressful and an intimidating event for most of us. However it offers an overview of a potential candidate and is an important part of the job selection process.So we must prepare to do them well. 
                    Interviews if done well would give you an edge over other candidates even when they might have better credentials.  So it is very important to be prepared for the interview. The following points in this article would give you an idea on how to prepare for your interview.

      1. Research the company profile and your role  - 

              When you go for an interview it is important to know some key facts about the company like what does the company do, where do they operate, what could be your role in the organization, What are the future plan of the organization. Having a good idea of the company will show the interviewer that you are very much interested in the job and will create a positive first impression in their minds.
              So before you go for the interview read the company website note down few important points about the company and your role in the company

     2. Research the company interview process - 

       Different companies have different interests for selecting candidates and so have different interview process. SO visit glassdoor.com and read how the interview process has been conducted before at your place (Location).


                
   In glassdoor.com you can check what other candidates are saying about the interview process and get to know the interview process and what all does it contain like whether it has a aptitude test, group discussion etc. You have to write a anonymous review of one of the interview you have attended to access the full website. So do write a review in glassdoor.com.

 

    3. Preparing for an aptitude / technical test -

       If you find that the company you are applying has a aptitude you can prepare for it in the following way
   a. Read about grammar as you may get sentence correction. Focus on correcting sentences and Vocabulary
   b. If the test includes questions on logic you would need regular practice to do them well. use A2Zinterview.com and other sites to read on verbal and non-verbal reasoning
   c. Revise basic maths concepts 

   If you have a technical test - 
               a.  Go through the technical subjects starting with those subjects which could be related to your job, for eg. If it's a IT job go through subjects like C, C++, SQL, JAVA etc. Keep some text books and notebooks where you have written the important technical content which you have studied.
               b. You can buy technical interview books, which would give you a glimpse of important content which the interviewers may focus on. You can get several of these books from Amazon, Flipkart.

     4. Prepare for the questions that can be asked by the interviewer -

   a. Go through the generic interview question and be prepared with good unique answer to them. Also have some good examples ready to highlight your good qualities as some interviewers do ask for examples to substantiate whatever you told them
    Some questions you need to prepare for are -
 1.  What is your greatest strength?
 2.  What is your greatest weakness?
 3.  How would you describe yourself? -
 4.  Do you work well with other people?
 5.  What are your hobbies?
 6.  Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
 7.  What major challenges and problems did you face? How did you handle them? 
 8.  What are the projects you have done?
 9.  Why join "XXX" company?

b. Questions from your resume - The interviewer usually reads through your resume and asks you some questions from it. So go through your resume and think about the questions that can be asked and have answers ready for them. 

c. Interview practice with your friends - Practice interview with your friends. This would give a feel of the real interview. 

 

    5. During the interview

During the interview try to do the following -
 a. Be confident - During the interview you should give a impression that you are a confident person and you can handle stressful situations well. 
    You can increase your confidence by 
            a. Deep breathing for some time.
            b. Listening to some upbeat songs before the interview 
            c. Dress well.This will automatically increase your confidence. It's a must for interviews
            d. Maintain a good posture this also increases your confidence.

b. Maintain a good voice - Try to answer all the question in a well modulated voice. Pause at the appropriate places and change voice tone appropriately. Maintain a good volume don't be too loud or soft.

c. Try to give simple and precise answers - When you are able to answer questions in a simple and precisely. It gives the impression that you can give instruction and explanations in a way anyone can understand to your boss and employees and keeps  the interviewer interested to listen to you.

d. Try to highlight your good points that could be relevant to the job in the questions they ask- For eg. It they ask you what are your hobbies include "web development" in one of your hobbies if it could help the employer, If they ask you to talk about your projects tell about those projects first which could be directly useful to the project

e. Try to come across as a pleasant, positive and sociable person- Interviewers would think how a candidate would fit in the organization. So it is important to come across as a sociable , pleasant and positive person. So avoid saying things things that could make you come across as pessimistic or cynical

d. Don't give wrong or out of topic answers - The thought of not being to answer a question in the interview is a scary one. If such a situation does arise stay calm and say that you don't know the answer but you are interested and would find out the answer in future.

e. Show courtesy - Show courtesy to everyone you meet during the interviews
This means - 
 1. Look everyone in the eye while talking and smile
 2. Speak clearly and say "please" , "thank you"
 3. Shake hands with your interviewer appropriately.

    6. After the interview- 

           When your interview is over be happy and grateful for the job opportunity you just had. Don't worry a lot about the results. There are several interviews to be taken in this world so don't worry if you don't cleat one interview. Keep revising your technical, practicing for the aptitude test as you would do better in the later job selection and you can't do these things effectively in a day.
